Welcome to MapleGlo
Goldens. We are located in central NJ right on the shore,
about an hour east of Philadelphia and also an hour south of
NYC.
I have been around
animals most of my life. Growing up, we always had dogs, and pet
birds. I also had two horses in high school that I
showed in hunter/equitation classes at local shows. I attended
St Francis College, PA where I concentrated in biology and
business courses. I
graduated from Morven Park Equestrian Institute in Leesburg,
VA where I was exposed to dressage & three day eventing. I
moved onto jobs on the thoroughbred race tracks, grooming and exercising
the racehorses. That is where I met my husband, Mark.
While
raising our three children, I managed a thoroughbred
breeding farm on the north shore of Long Island for 7 years
prior to moving back to NJ. It was while on Long Island that my son,
Josh,
and I started to breed and exhibit cockatiels. That was back
in 1991. We moved back to NJ in 1995 and since then I have
worked in the medical field while also raising our birds and
children. Josh & I went to shows all over the east coast, south to GA and AL and north to NH. Josh has flown out to WA and CA
with our birds to exhibit them on the west coast. We have
attended several National Cage Bird Shows where our birds held their
own and where Josh's Lutino went Best Cockatiel In Show in
2005! Breeding and hand feeding the babies was a great
experience and labor of love. We were continually among the top 20 exhibitors of
the year for several years, along with being listed in the
Top 25 Exhibitors of All Time! I have raised several champions
and grand champions from our line of cockatiels. I am very
proud of what we have been able to achieve with the birds.
I also raised parrotlets and lineolated parakeets who are
wonderful little parrots. Please visit my cockatiel site
Cockatiel Cottage or Josh's
Mapleleaf Aviaries to see some of our birds.
In 2005, I was getting ready to have an "empty nest" with our
last child getting ready to go off to college, I knew it was
going to be a tough transition from being so busy with the
kids and the birds to having not much at home to keep me busy.
Josh was getting ready to move to NC himself and take his
flock with him. I would be left with my own breeding stock of
birds but without my son to share the enjoyment, I decided to
sell most of the birds and keep just a few pets.
Since 2005,
I have had the privilege to be owned by three special goldens. Spicy is a registered therapy dog and she loves
to visit people in the local rehab facilities along with kids
on the pediatric floor at the local hospital. Kelly is a UKC
champion and I am currently working on obedience and
agility with her. In 2006, Trisha joined our household.
She has already earned her RN along with her CGC & TDI. She is currently busy growing up and pursuing her career in
obedience, agility, tracking, rally & conformation after she is matures.
Feel free to browse my site and if you have any questions
please contact me. I have made every effort to make it as
informative as possible. Please check back for updates.
